I am not going to lie-this winter has been getting to me a little. Vowing to stay positive about all this snow, I have decided to think of real reasons to do so. After all we live in the North East so we have to make the best of it…

Wesleigh is wearing: Sweater sold out but love this one, Boots, Leggings, Necklace, Hat, coat. I am wearing: coat sold out in black but loving the blue!, tights, shoes and hat from here similar here.

Staying Positive in the Cold:

1. Hot coffee on cold mornings: No one wants to drink hot coffee in the heat! O.k. yes, you can have ice coffee, but a hot cup of coffee on a cold morning is glorious. See my coffee post here!

2. Hibernate, eat and not shave: Seriously us gals get to hide indoors, eat, gain weight, not shave etc. during the winter, so take that California! By summer we will be in our bikini’s bathing suits again! We can just jet set to the Caribbean for some Vitamin D if we need to!

3. SPRING! It’s a short lived season here in the North East, but how lovely is it to hear the birds chirping, and the snow melting/dripping off the buildings?! AND in Spring it’s the perfect time to wear rain boots which are charming and you know it!

Am I making you smile yet?

4. Fires in Fireplaces: There is nothing, I said NOTHING like a roaring fire on a cold, and storming winter night. If you live in New England, and you don’t have a fire place, get your self to the nearest charming hotel for brunch, a cocktail, whatever and ENJOY an old fashioned fire in a fireplace.

5. Snow is pretty: Right now it’s muddled with dirt and sand during a brief melty stage, but seriously how peaceful is snow when it’s falling?

6. We get to wear cool sweaters and cute coats: Just think, we would never get a chance to wear those cute tall boots, sweaters, scarfs and overcoats-and all together if we lived in Florida!

7. The summer is so so beautiful here: This cold weather makes us have an appreciation for the summer, and all it’s glory. There is NO way the southern states appreciate EVERY single sunny day.

8. Snow days! OK I will admit that a week of snow days gives me cabin fever+makes me thankful at least one of my kids goes to school every day. However, it’s so nice to stay in bed, have a family breakfast, play games, watch movies etc…

9.  Skiing! Even if you are not a skier, I promise you will have a blast heading up to the mountains with your family and/or friends. Hot cocoa in the lodge, ski tans, cute ski attire, and burning calories while having FUN!

10.The greatest thing about living in the North East is that it’s the best place to live, ever. We have snowy Christmas’s, everyone wants snow during the holidays. We have the most beautiful summers, with the BEST beaches! We have the best schools, food, culture…o.k. now I am bragging-but see it’s not so bad?!

Ok yes, Wesleigh is getting a little big to “baby wear” but she did say “weeee” the first time I tried this amazing baby wearing coat on from B&ME ! I think she likes it! My only regret, is not getting this coat sooner. It’s SO perfect for little ones on cold New England days.

If you are trying to look stylish this winter, and baby wear. You should most definitely check out this coat by B&Me. You can wear it while pregnant, with baby, and without baby. Definitely one of my favorite finds!

Baby wearing is one of the most amazing things you can do with, and for your new (or older) baby. When I was pregnant with Luke I did a ton of research on which carriers to buy, and SO much had changed by the time Wesleigh was born. There are different carriers that I think work for different age groups. Here are my favorites below.

For Newborns: For newborn babies I love the Solly Baby wrap. It’s perfect for breast feeding too.

For Babies 6+ Months: The Ergo is a carrier I still use for Wesleigh. She is 24 lbs and I can still wear her in the front without hurting my neck or back.

For Toddlers: The Osprey baby pack is perfect for toddlers, and babies who are 8 months and up. The perfect hiking pack!

The Details: B&Me coat, Ergo 360 carrier, Anthropologie head wraps, Zuzii shoes, and AG jeans (on sale!) and Photography by Lisa from Lisa Elizabeth Images

How to Care for Baby Clothes

I got a ton of questions on my last “hand-me-down” post asking how I saved, and stored Luke’s baby clothing for Wesleigh. I have 3 simple steps to preserving baby clothing below. Check out Wesleigh wearing Luke’s baby gap knit sweater from 10 years ago…

Wesleigh is wearing: a hand me down sweater (similar here), Baby Gap jeans, Ralph Lauren shoes, Oeuf Scarf -out of stock but I like these ones, and is carrying her Hazel Village bunny.

Three Steps to Preserving Baby Clothes:

1. Decide Which Pieces to Save: I save only the clothing without baby stains. That means going through, and deciding which pieces are the most important, have sentimental value, but that are also stain-free. Stains become even more predominant over time, the yellows will only get more yellow. I don’t typically save jeans, onsies, shoes or any stained clothing. I do save sweaters, knits, scarves, and rompers. The rest I donate.

2. Remove Stains and Wash: If there is anything with a small stain but still worth saving, I use baking soda and water, or a Tide Stick to remove the stain. I wash all the clothing with dye-free baby laundry soap, and dry with all natural dryer sheets. *I fold everything properly before I store it to save myself the time of sifting though all the clothes when I need them.

3. Storing the Clothes: Use an opaque and air tight storage bins. You don’t want to buy the clear plastic bins because light can get to the clothes, and discolor them. I made this mistake with some of Luke’s clothing because I thought it would be easier to see the it through the side, but those items faded over time. I use these bins for everything. I store my bins in a (finished) basement closet, but any dark and cool place works.

TIP: If you have anything that is white, such as a blouse, dress, romper, or Christening gown, get this preserved by a professional. Most dry cleaning services offer this. White dress material yellows- ie. Luke’s Christening romper (wah!).

Hope these tips help! Happy Storing!
