The Little Acorn
Here’s a little tidbit about The Little Acorn from owner/designer Bridget Kelly!
Where did the name “The Little Acorn” sprout from?
When I was a teenager My Mom wrote a children’s book shortly before she died of breast cancer, called “The Acorn”, about how a tiny Acorn grows into a mighty Oak Tree, it is a story of hope, belief and potential…and has always been an inspiration to me.
What inspires your designs?
So many things inspire me; nature, art, music, children, mothers, friends, films, you name it! Mostly, I just try to think like a child … it helps to never forget to let your imagination be free.
Are there any new products that you are working on that we should be looking out for?
My Sleep-Pod, which is the smart, safe and adorable option instead of blankets for infant sleeping- it allows for parents to have peace of mind that baby can sleep safely. It will be available at retail in January.
What’s coming up in the next year for “The Little Acorn?”
I always introduce new wall art, with coordinating bedding & rugs. My newest additions: “ Alphabet Adventure” “Funny Friends” and “Nature-land Fairies” each have a story to tell. I added “7- bibs- a- week” to my assortment and I’m currently writing a book based on my own painting “The Wishing tree” which has a whole collection of bedding and décor- it’s a story of happiness.
What is a day in the life of Bridget Kelly look like?
6am to midnight since this is a very small company and I wear most of the hats. To be honest, as an entrepreneur- starting a new company is really all consuming – but luckily I love what I do. I travel overseas quite a bit, so when I’m home I try to set a routine for myself.
After I go for my daily run, I’m out for a quick breakfast. I submit all customer orders to my warehouse early in the day so customers can get their products right away, then emails and phone calls most of the morning. In the afternoon I wear my marketing hat. In the evening I finally become a designer and artist- I find most of my creativity comes to me at night.
My extended family lives nearby, I visit with them a few times a week, my niece is a great source of inspiration and fun so I try to see her often. Most of my friends have kids so I’m always getting inspired! If I could change anything, I’d have been born with the ability to cook- but alas, I got the design gene instead.

I just love this 1950′s cherry birthday party from Lindi Haws. The combination of the light blue and red goes hand-in-hand with the Johnny Rockets decor. I can just imagine myself picking out the music on their cute tabletop jukeboxes!
