For the last two weeks I have not written a single thing. I didn’t write a blog post or journal entry, nor an Instagram or Facebook status….NOTHING. Why you ask? Because absolutely nothing was inspiring me. Below is a list of (excuses) reasons why I have not put pen to paper…

  1. I am tired-seriously I am though?
  2. I am not inspired by anything-now I am whining…
  3. I don’t have time-ah yes, don’t you love this one?
  4. I went on vacation to unplug-yes, I did do that but I brought my notebook and still didn’t write a darn thing.
  5. It’s so cold and gross out who could be inspired it’s so dreary?! Truth.

Now that you know my lame excuses for not writing, I can tell you that it was more of a STRUGGLE thinking about sitting at my desk today than it was to actually just do it! When your days start to blend together it feels impossible to get motivated to do anything. Here is exactly how I got moving today.

  1. The two older kids were at school and so I had some free time between 9 and 12:15. I got the baby on the afternoon nap schedule but she still wants to cat nap in the morning and I usually keep her up but today I let her sleep from 10:30-11:30.
  2. I then promptly made a cup of tea and sat on my back steps and listened to nature for 2-3 minutes. The outdoors can be really grounding and conjure up deep thoughts and inspiration.
  3.  Next, I went inside and pulled out my all time favorite book off the bookshelf. Even though I have already read it 15 times, I skipped right to my favorite chapter and just read a few pages. A few ideas started flowing so I held my pen and notebook between my hands.
  4. After I put the book back, I grabbed my notebook and wrote down 3 places that I really want to travel to and specific reasons why. Once I started thinking about all these dreamy locations it sparked something in me, and I ran into my office, cleared the desk and started typing.

After about 30 minutes of writing I had typed up almost 2 pages, and started this blog post. All it took was one hour of my time. When the baby started to cry I left my desk as is, and rocked her while she wiped the sleep from her eyes.  I was already day dreaming about returning back to my work which is my tell tale sign that creativity is back. I think the last few weeks I have been too much pressure on myself to get some writing down during the 2 hour break I have in the afternoon while the girls sleep. It was stifling my creative juices. After getting two pages out in just an hour I feel amazingly accomplished.

I would love to know how you get motivated and find inspiration. If you would let me know either in the comment section below or over on Instagram that would be lovely.

Happy New Year! 2016 was a year of amazing adventures, new friends, business triumphs, and growth but, like all good things, there were some tough counterparts as well. I have been looking forward to a fresh start this year in 2017.

I have also been thinking a ton about the future of this blog. Back 6 years ago when I started, I was blogging to exercise my writing muscle while being a mom of one. Over time we added two little girls to our family and my writing aspirations have grown as well. After a lot of thinking I have decided to try to blog here on the first week of every month (i.e. February 6th, March 6th, April 3rd, and etc.) I am going to do more lengthy posts about things I love and have discovered over the few weeks in between. I hope you like this new format but as always, your feedback is much appreciated over the next few months.

With all of this I have thought a lot about how much I want to share of my family online. My priorities have shifted and for now, I am going to hold back from showing all of their faces in posts and on social media. It’s just something I feel in my gut at the moment.

Please make sure you stay up to date with my newsletter by subscribing at the bottom of any posts and at the bottom of the home page. You can also follow my professional work over here and on Instagram. Let’s keep in touch during my “off” weeks blogging and I hope you enjoy my favorite things for January, below. *as always simply click on the image to shop the item.

When I saw this bunny pea coat over on the Instagram of Little Goodall, I did an immediate “oh my gosh that’s SO cute”. I mean seriously is this not the sweetest thing you have ever seen?!  For my little W who never, ever wants to wear a coat outside, it’s perfect because it’s fun, and functional. The fabric is thick, and sturdy but also super soft. We tested it out down by the water last week, it was windy and bitter but she was bundled up and warm. Check out this coat, and all the other animal options over at Little Goodall.

W is also wearing a dress by Soor Ploom, Hunter boots, and Gap Kids Tights.

This post was created in partnership with Little Goodall. However, all the words and thoughts expressed here are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that I believe in wholeheartedly.
